| | Dr. Komas grew up in Ohio and West Virginia. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. After graduation from West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1992, he entered active duty service in the United States Army. He completed an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Brook Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas in 1998.
During his military service, Dr. Komas served as a General Medical Officer and Chief of Professional Services with the 43rd M*A*S*H at Camp Humphries, Korea. He also served for four years as | |

| | orthopedic surgeon at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. During this assignment, Dr. Komas was deployed to Tuzla, Bosnia, as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery with US forces in support of the 3rd Infantry Division.
Dr. Komas has also been a Clinical Associate Professor for the University of South Carolina, participating in the training of residents. In 2003 he completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine with the Lake Tahoe Orthopedic Surgery Institute. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Komas joined Dr. Charles Wilhite in Chico and they formed Chico Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medical Associates. Since then, Dr. Komas has pursued his special interest in arthroscopy of the shoulder and knee, including arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. He has significant experience in Sports Medicine and has served as the team physician and surgeon for all Butte College athletic programs from 2003 to present.
Dr. Komas lives in Chico with his wife, Tanya, a native Northern Californian and an Assistant Professor at Chico State. They have two young sons, John and Will. He and his family enjoy many outdoor activities, such as hiking, snowboarding, and supporting their children in their multiple Little League activities. | |
